Nestled into the mountains of central Mexico is San Miguel de Allende, a small, cobble-stoned, art-filled town with nearly perfect weather. It is known as everyone’s favorite town in Mexico, but even the best of places has its share of problems. It came to light in July of 2005 that children that could not live at home due to circumstances beyond their control were begging in the streets each week in order to meet subsistence needs.
These are the children of Casa Hogar Santa Julia, a nonprofit children’s home run by five Dominican Sisters who must rely on community donations to raise the 40+ children in their care. They have a physical home, but that home has severe infrastructural problems because of the natural neglect that their lack of funds has caused. Yet, hope prevails.
Current operational support needs are about $130,000 USD/year, approximately $30,000 USD of which is received in gifts in kind each year. To make the buildings and grounds safe, adequate, and provide for expected growth, another $1,000,000 USD is needed. And, to accomplish the Sisters’ vision of ensuring that each girl be educated to her potential and matriculate into the career of her choice, we need to endow this home.
U.S. tax-deductible donations made out to San Miguel Community Foundation, noting Santa Julia on the memo line.
Other financial donations may be made out to Casa Hogar Santa Julia Don Bosco, A.C.
