| There are
many fun and rewarding ways to participate at Santa Julia, as follows:
Ongoing Programs
Adolescent Life Skills Program
Our 14 teens need life skills to lead responsible, productive
personal and professional lives. We are seeking female Mexican mentors to
continue this life-changing program of abilities that the Madres cannot
impart due to their particular life circumstances. To become involved,
please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Ambassador’s Circle
Occasionally, the Madres and/or the children cannot be at functions
that would benefit from their presence. You might be their representative.
To become an ambassador, please write to
info@santajulia.org Thank you!
Birthday Bunch
A very small number of very caring people currently ensure that our
40 children are celebrated for being. If you would like to join the fun,
contact
info@santajulia.org Thank you!
Celebrity Chauffeur!
The kids have more places to go than the Madres can take them. Might
you be one of our Celebrity Chauffeur!? Well maintained, automatic
transmission, insured vehicles – along with eager children – are waiting for
the gift of your driving skills. Please write to
info@santajulia.org Thank you!
Clothe-A-Child
It takes only $50 USD to provide an entire outfit for one child.
Because they can count on only two outfits a year from Christmas and
birthday events, your donation could ensure that they have an adequate
supply. Please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Diaper Divas and Dons
The Madres and children have way too much dignity to ask for things
like unmentionables, but they are needed every step of the way. If you would
like to know what they need at present, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Education
The most important thing we can provide for these children beyond
stability is education. We now have children in pre-school, kindergarten,
elementary school, and junior high school. Thanks to scholarships, we have a
few children in the Waldorf school here (www.waldorfsanmiguel.org).
Next year we will have children in high school. Please write to
info@santajulia.org for information about how you can help
provide this basic need.
English
In the tourism economy of San Miguel, the children will have limited
career options if they cannot speak English. Centro-Mexicano has deeply
discounted classes to $35 USD/month/child in exchange for which sponsors get
to correspond with the child of their choice. Please contact owner Josefina
at
centro_mexicano@hotmail.com. Thank
you!
Financial Donations
The children of Santa Julia rely on community contributions for all
aspects of their lives. For U.S. tax deductions, make checks to San Miguel
Community Foundation and note Santa Julia on the memo line. Otherwise,
checks may be made payable to Casa Hogar Santa Julia Don Bosco, A.C. In San
Miguel, checks may be dropped off at Solutions, Recreo 11, Box 165, Centro.
The US address is 5802 Bob Bullock Loop, # C1B84/165, Laredo, Texas 78041. A
little goes a long way in Mexico! Thank you!
Foundation for the Future
The four Madres do not have time for begging. They need investments
to ensure the future sustainability of their life-saving work. If you would
like to discuss a legacy gift, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Friends of Santa Julia
This is a program in which individuals and groups pledge support for
general or specific needs and receive a framed certificate and a monthly
newsletter. If you would like to consider forming a chapter, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Gifts in Kind
The children and Madres need all the same things that everyone else
needs to survive. If you are considering a gift in kind, please write to
info@santajulia.org to coordinate as storage space is scarce and
receiving things by mail is expensive. Thank you!
Gifts of Honor
Stumped on what to give the guy or gal who has everything? How about
making a contribution in their name to Santa Julia? Everyone will feel
honored in the process! For more information, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Grandparents
The girls miss their grands. Might you want to be a grand for a day,
on occasion, or for longer? If so, please contact us at
info@santajulia.org.
Interpretations/Translations
From time to time there is a need for formal interpretations and/or
translations from English to Spanish or vice versa. Please write to
info@santajulia.org if you can help. Thank you!
Matching Grants
Many companies will match their employee’s contributions to
nonprofits. Might yours be one of them? If so, you can double the value of
your donation to further the goals of Santa Julia.
Check with your employer, and then write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Milagros de Amor
The children are making amazingly alluring products in their art
therapy and cooking classes. These products are being marketed under their
brand, Milagros de Amor, Miracles of Love.
If you would like to have some of their products for sale, with all proceeds
going back to the girls themselves, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Mother’s Little Helpers
There are always little things to do around a house with 40 children.
Might you help the Madres handle these one-time tasks? For more information,
please write to
info@santajulia.org.
Thank you!
Newsletter
The monthly email newsletter, The Spirit of Santa Julia, provides
recipients with photos of the children, a calendar of special events,
interesting facts, and timely thoughts. To receive this, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Pals
Every child needs to know that there is someone in the world who
particularly cares.
In this program, the child receives at least one email with a photo of the
writer, and the writer receives the monthly newsletter. If you would like to
be a pal, select a child from our children’s page and write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Parent for a Day
Four times a year the Madres are called to each child’s classroom to
hear an oral report of grades. These meetings are about an hour long and are
held concurrently for all 40 children. Obviously, they need surrogate
parents to go to many of the children’s classrooms simply to write down
their grades. If you can help, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Psychology
Almost all of our children have special needs due to the
psychological dynamics of their families of origin. We have a wonderful
psychologist who is deeply discounting her fees to ensure that each child is
properly evaluated and receives the help needed. The cost is only $5,000 USD/year.
If you would like additional information, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Sister Schools
To share language, culture, and friendship, schools receive a framed
certificate of appreciation and the monthly email newsletter. For more
information, write to
info@santajulia.org.
Thank you!
Special Events
Birthdays, first communions, quincianeras, confirmations – if there
is an occasion, our Mexican hosts have a way to celebrate it. And why?
Because through ceremony they let the honored know that they are appreciated
and that they now have additional responsibility for their fellow human
beings. If you would like additional information, write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Support-A-Child
This is a program in which individuals and groups select a child,
pledge support for basic needs ($100 USD/month), and receive a framed
certificate with that child’s photo as well as the monthly newsletter. This
is the equivalent of $3 USD/day, the price of one gourmet coffee or one taxi
ride with tip. For more information, write to
info@santajulia.org Thank you!
Sustaining Supporter
Select a line item in the budget and pledge support in order to
receive a framed certificate and the monthly newsletter.
For example, a US garden club is considering sponsoring the
gardening/maintenance employee for a year. Cost: $5,200 USD. That’s only
$100 USD/week! If you would like additional information, write to
info@santajulia.org Thank you!
Tours
A great deal of understanding comes with familiarity about how others
live. If you would like a tour, please write to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
Volunteer Opportunities
Opportunities to take care of odds and ends around the house and
other things come up all the time. Let us know if you would like to
volunteer by writing to
info@santajulia.org. Thank you!
